Finance that closes faster, forecasts better and costs less
The gap between an average finance function and a top-quartile one is wide and measurable. APQC’s cross-industry benchmarking puts the median cost of finance at 1.0% of revenue, top performers at 0.66% and bottom performers at 1.5%. On headcount the spread is starker: 36 finance FTEs per US$1 billion of revenue at the 25th percentile against 141.6 at the 75th, nearly four times as many. The Hackett Group’s Digital World Class finance organisations run at 45% lower cost with up to 42% fewer staff, automate 99% of journal entries and spend 68% more time on forward-looking analysis.
Most finance functions know they are not there. What they lack is a precise picture of where the time goes and a partner who can move the numbers inside a budget cycle.
